DAY 1 -
PENWORTHAM GC |
|
|
Nestling on the banks of the River Ribble, the naturally
undulating and wooded slopes of this glorious parkland estate have been continuously enhanced and developed since 1908. The most recent improvements were based on recommendations made by John Nicholson Associates, a partnership including Ken Brown, the former Ryder Cup star turned television commentator and our course architect, Ken Moodie.
The Club has subsequently installed eighteen sand based greens to the very finest USGA standards. With nearly 6,000 yards of tree lined fairways including five par three holes and two excellent par fives, the course provides a challenging and enjoyable test of golf for players of all abilities. A feature of the clubhouse is the large south-west facing veranda which overlooks the 1st tee and the 18th green - where you can share the nerves as your colleagues put out.
Penwortham is a PGA Qualifying venue, has recently hosted the Lancashire Seniors Open, and co-hosted the 2012 UK Corporate Games.

FAIRHAVEN GC |
|
|
Fairhaven is not only a beautiful place to play golf, but fully lives up to its designation as a ‘Championship’ course originally designed by James Braid. Professional golf at Fairhaven started back in 1934, when the course played host to the ‘Penfold’ Tournament.
The Club has hosted many ‘Open Championship’ Final Qualifying Competitions, when the ‘Open Championship’ is played at neighbouring Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club. The Professionals’ course record of 64 was achieved by Justin Leonard in 1996, while he was playing in and leading the final qualifying rounds.
Listed in both Golf Worlds, ‘The Best 10 ‘Open Championship’ Qualifying Courses’, and ‘Great Britain & Irelands Best 10 Opening Holes’, and described by Peter Allis as “a real hidden gem”.
In 2022 FGC hosted British Amateur Championships alongside
Royal Lytham - visit our website for full details.

PRESTON GC |

Preston Golf Club, a must play Lancashire gem, is situated in the Fulwood District of Preston. It was established in 1892 and modified by famous designers such as James Braid, Harry Vardon, Alistair Mackenzie and Sandy Herd over the years. It is a very testing, parkland course of 6312 yds. with fully established USGA-standard greens, where water hazards, tree-lined fairways and numerous bunkers provide a challenge to golfers at all levels.
The course is complemented by a fully equipped golfing Academy including a 16 bay floodlit driving range, so you can warm up before beginning your round and
visit the well-stocked Professional’s shop. The Clubhouse provides excellent dining and drinking facilities for you to relax after your round.
Preston has in recent years played host to many County,
National and International events. In 2022 we hosted the
English PGA Qualifier for Northern England,
gaining many compliments from the country's Pro's and only 3
of them were under Par. Last year the England
Golf Union (EGU) chose Preston to host the England Vs Spain
U16's International Fixture (England Won 15-9) and recently Sky Sports televised the popular Trilby Tour
Championship of Lancashire which was held at Preston. We hosted the English Boys U14 Amateur Strokeplay
Championship again for the EGU. Preston GC has also been host venue for the
Lancashire Amateur Championships and we
co-hosted the golf events for another national competition
the UK Corporate Games.

Other forthcoming major events include the Ladies' Golf Union Girl’s Home International Matches in August 2013 and the English Women's Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship August 2015.
TThe Old Links has been voted in Golf World's Top 100 Golf Courses in England 2011 and the signature 9th hole was voted by Golf World in the May 2010 issue as the Top 9th Hole in Great Britain and Ireland.
